A snapshot of things you can do for a healthy respiratory system.
Nov 20 2020The human body has two main systems that everyone’s familiar with. Most people understand the importance of strengthening the immune system and know that vitamin C can help with that. People also know how to keep their digestive system healthy. But most don’t often think about their respiratory system. It’s important that we don’t take this one for granted. And it’s not just the lungs; it’s also about everything leading to the lungs.
The oxygen we breathe travels through the entire respiratory system, which includes the nose, nasal cavity, mouth, voice box, windpipe, and the lungs. To steer clear of respiratory conditions, make sure your system is functioning the way it should by following these guidelines whenever possible!
Don’t smoke
An obvious but crucial recommendation; smoking cigarettes is the leading cause of lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes bronchitis and emphysema. Cigarette smoke narrows the airways, making it difficult to breathe. Over time, the smoke destroys lung tissue, which can trigger cancer.
Avoid exposure to polluted air
As we age, our lungs lose resistance to polluted air, so they become more susceptible to infections and diseases. Polluted air can consist of secondhand smoke, exhaust from heavy traffic, dust, and industrial waste.
Exercise
Exercise helps you breathe better. When you work out, your heart beats faster, and your lungs work harder because your body needs oxygen. Your lungs go into overdrive to deliver oxygen to the cells in your body. If you go jogging, make sure you do so away from roads with heavy traffic.
Prevent infections and illnesses
Even the common cold can turn into something serious. To prevent this, wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds. There will be times you aren’t at home or near a sink & soap, so carry hand sanitizer with you. It’s also recommended to avoid places that are overly crowded, get your yearly flu vaccine, and go for regular check-ups. And if you feel sick, don’t spread it; stay home!
Drink plenty of water
Dehydration causes the mucus that lines the airways and lungs to thicken, which slows down respiration and makes you more susceptible to respiratory issues, including allergies and other serious conditions. For added protection, you can dissolve a Redoxon tablet into a glass of water twice a day. Made with VITAMIN C + ZINC, these tablets are effervescent to provide greater absorption and protection.
By making these 5 things daily habits, you’ll be doing so much for the health and strength of your respiratory system. Your lungs can’t do everything on
